Classic, the father of modern fantasy/fiction. Not to many present day authors can say they are not inspired by Tolkein and his boooks.

This story defines fantasy to me. If you at all enjoy fantasy, you'll love these stories. They are rich and complex, not light reading, but well worth your time.

An excellent adventure from start to finish. It is very descriptive and you feel like part of Frodo's journey. Tolkien takes you to a world all your own.

cubedrummer
Amazing, inspiring, there are so many words to describe it, I'm surprised anyone can do it in 160 characters.

matsalleh
The greatest fantasy books ever - period. Tolkien's Middle Earth is an amazing world which comes alive in his writing. The battle scene at the end rocks.

telesilla
Its importance to the genre cannot be overstated. A hard read at times, but worth just for the sheer depth and beauty of Middle Earth.

willlord
If you can make it past the first 250 pages (where essentially nothing happens) then you'll be rewarded with the finest fantasy novel ever written. Fair deal?

eleraama
Love the idea, love the movies, love the world-- but the book is kind of boring. Tolkien has many gifts, but sparkling prose is not among them.
