I love Murakami. Really liked this, but I can't say I loved it. His character depth here lost focus when he introduced so many. Still, he's a beautiful writer.

Murakami perfectly creates alternate worlds and histories and there's nothing to do but let yourself get caught up in it. His best work.

Plot gently pulls you in, then ditches you in a dimly lit alley. The mundane becomes fantastic and the clearly supernatural is treated as non-negotiable fact.

This books starts off mundanely and slowly edges its way to the fantastic. You find yourself amongst the truly strange and accept it as if it were normal.
