The terror comes from *not* seeing the whole thing, good cinema lesson. That's why it hasn't aged much and remains a scary ride for generations to come.
It's pretty damn scary. Great use of older 'working-class' characters you don't normally see in horror flicks. Nice less-is-more approach with the space jockey.
Nothing absolutely great about this movie. It has classic status, likely because it came along early for alien horror. Gave me motion sickness, to boot.
