I saw this movie for a very first time while in HS in the USA-back then it seemed to me that they were presenting European teen lifestyle-I now know I was wrong.

KIDS gets under the skin and lingers, long after it is viewed. The kids at the core of the story are just that: teenagers living the urban melee of modern-day America. But while these kids dwell in the big city, their story could, quite possibly, happen anywhere.
It was no lifestyle I lived, but it was easy for me to believe that this was a realistic depiction. A film I'm glad I saw but would never want to see again.
