Nice, someone who actually agrees with me on Transformers, and in general reviews close to what I do for many things.
so you work for gamespot, huh? i myself am in "the industry", as it were. i've worked for redoctane since 2000.
Really! That's awesome. I'd ask how you like it but since you're still there, I assume it's great. I'm only a freelancer, so I don't technically work "there". I do a bunch of their peon reviews, nothing big-name (except for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon), but it keeps me sane aside from my corporate job.
that's cool, though. what's the worst p.o.s you ever got stuck reviewing?
Let's see. The lowest score I handed out was a 2.0 to the Virtual Console release of NES Volleyball, back when they were still reviewing VC games. (This was before the whole... Gerstmann incident went down.) After that, I'd say Myst DS (3.0) and Wonder World Amusement Park for Wii (4.0).The best games I've reviewed are Bubble Bobble NES on Virtual Console (8.0), Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on DS (7.5) and Axelay for SNES on Virtual Console (7.5), because Axelay just kicks ass.
I guess you could say that you have been given the responsibility of keeping Gamespot's average score down!
Heheh, well hey -- when I'm assigned dreck like Wonder World Amusement Park...
Do they only give freelancers the stuff the main guys won't do (not as high profile) or is it fairly balanced?
I personally ask for any and everything. I don't mind crap because crap more often than not ends up being shorter, and since I freelance on the side while holding a busy day job, it works out. I've gotten somewhat high-profile games before though, specifically Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker.
But to actually fully answer your question, it's pretty balanced; I mean, I don't think freelancers get the highest-profile games, but some get pretty popular titles -- or at least popular from a "hardcore fan" standpoint. (A freelancer got to review De Blob, for instance, which was supposedly one of the more unique titles getting looked at by lots of eager Wii fans.)
