Love the scratchy, complex sounds going on in the background and the fragile vocals. Reminds me alternately of Elliott Smith and early Beta Band. Skewed folk.

Thoroughly enjoyable nonsense, with a good dose of humour and some very cool effects and gadgets.

Imaginative and moving animation about a girl growing up in Iran during the revolution and war, kicking against the restrictions of the regime. Enlightening.

Great fun, and surprisingly sweet. I love the dialogue, particularly the scene in the convenience store at the beginning.

I don't think I've ever seen a film where all the characters were so dislikable. Rather fragmentary and unsatisfactory as well.

If there was ever a book to make you feel as if your own life has been happy and easy in comparison, this is it. Enlightening and wryly funny in places.

Reminded me of classic 1940s screwball comedies. Zellweger doesn't have the sass of Hepburn, but the comedy zinged along very enjoyably.

I was surprised by how faithful the movie was to the book. Tense and thoughtful, McCarthy has a wonderful ear for authentic dialogue.

A modern farce in classic Ealing Comedy style. Great ensemble cast, but Alan Tudyk's accidentally stoned character is brilliant. Great opening scene.

Truly excellent collection of folk songs 'Retold' by a mixture of folk, world, dub and rock artists. Exciting and fiercely topical, yet rooted in history.

Slightly disappointed by this. Had some good, quirky moments and lots of imagination, but didn't quite hold together somehow.

Fischer, a passionate sci-fi and fantasy fan in his childhood, renounces geekdom then rediscovers it at a series of conventions. Nostalgic and affectionate.

Great fun, with some brilliant jokes, particularly 2-D one. Great cameo by Stephen Hawking, but not enough Zoidberg as usual.

Very funny and sweet film about being an outsider. Nostalgic but not cloying, and some great low-key jokes.

Taut storytelling, which evokes the fevered, claustrophobic atmosphere of small town New Zealand very well.

I'm rapidly becoming a Gaiman fan. This is a lovely collection of very varied short stories and poems. Gripping, funny, poignant and horrific by turns.

Pitch black comedy. Lightning changes in tone between laugh out loud funny and violently tragic. Hugely surreal in places.

Not as bad as I feared. Basically included all of the plot of the book (in the wrong order) without any of the emotional depth. But Sam Elliott IS Lee.

Didn't like this as much as I thought I would. Some dazzling ideas, but by its nature the story is so fractured it's hard to keep up with.

Puts a really unique and interesting spin on time travel, and is a wonderful love story to boot. The kind of book you rave about incessantly to everyone.

Amazingly life affirming - Jean-Do used memory and imagination to escape. I thought the book wouldn't translate well to film, but this almost does it justice.

Incredible, subtle performances by Tony Leung and Wei Tang. Mr. Yee hovers on the edge of becoming irredeemable, and we see that he knows it.

Inspiring film, based on a true story. In some ways Christopher was selfish, as all driven people are, but he obviously touched many people on his journey.

Surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. Despite surface appearances, quite a grown-up film about taking responsibility, and working at a relationship.

Uncanny valley, ahoy! Got huge cognitive dissonance from seeing a buff Ray Winstone. Story is good as you would expect from an ancient tale, but lacked depth.

Not as edgy as Pegg's other films, with few in-jokes, and a very predictable storyline. But somehow Pegg pulls it off brilliantly. Had me roaring with laughter.

Incredibly gripping. I forgot to breathe in places. Mesmerising performances by Bardem and Tommy Lee Jones. I didn't like the violence, but loved the ambiguity.

That very rare beast: a Gaelic language feature film. Brilliant storytelling, stunning scenery, and a treat to hear Gaelic spoken. Very evocative of the Islands.

Blew me away from the first pages. Fascinating exploration of mythology that kept sending me to the web to look up people, places and gods. Wednesday is great.

Gung ho, foul-mouthed Thunderbirds destroy most of the world's major landmarks while unsuccessfully chasing terrorists. A guilty (but hilarious) pleasure.
