Malwarebytes antivirus software has flown a little under the radar since its inception in January of 2008, yet is a very productive security program. Malwarebytes Protects You From…

Malwarebytes is designed to remove malware and spyware. It is a fairly stripped down type of antivirus software though that is not too say it is ineffective. In fact, Malwarebytes has actually performed well on independent tests that have examined the platform.

The advanced malware protection of Malwarebytes is built to detect as well as remove threats as soon as they emerge. Among the threats Malwarebytes scans: trojans, rootkits, spyware, rogues, dialers, worms, bots and exploits.

Like Trend Micro, Malwarebytes scans your computer in real time. What this means is the antivirus software is cloud-based. It doesn’t require processing power from your PC, but rather operates off another server. This allows Malwarebytes to constantly monitor for malware.

Malwarebytes recently added protection against exploit attacks as well as ransomware. Exploit attack defense shields your PC’s vulnerable systems and softwares from exploit attacks, while ransomware keeps your data from being held hostage.

The antivirus software has built additional measures to shield malicious websites from attacking as well as prevent access to others that may cause harm to your computer.

Malwarebytes may technically be considered antivirus software, though keep in mind it does not offer 100 percent coverage. It is strictly intended for flagging and eliminating vicious malware as well as blocking malicious websites. It doesn’t offer email or network protection. Malwarebytes also doesn’t backup files or other important data.

Devices/Operating Systems Malwarebytes Supports

Malwarebytes is compatible with Windows, Mac and mobile devices. It supports all major browsers and unlike McAfee, its features are the same regardless of what type of operating system you have.

The malware software offers limited customer support though they are available to be reached on Facebook and Twitter. It would be nice if they had a little more customer support, but that is what helps keep the prices down. There are also some online tutorials and YouTube videos available if you need help with setup or installation.

Installation & Performance

Malwarebytes is incredibly easy to install. It still offers a free version, and takes up very little space whether you use the free or paid version of the software.

Additionally, the scan is super fast. While it may not be quite as detailed as some of the more reputable antivirus software providers like Norton, Panda Security or VIPRE, the speed of the scan is impressive.

There is some drag and delayed PC computer when a scan operates, though that is to be expected from a more budget friendly antivirus option. Still, it is very possible to use the computer to surf the web while a scan takes place, so long as you don’t weigh it down too much by watching video or streaming music.

Price

Malwarebytes features two options: a free and paid version. The free version is only good for 14 days though some use it to get a quick scan in order to discover whether or not they should invest more thorough security maintenance on their PC. This is not exactly recommended as the best maintenance with PC safety and security is preventive maintenance.

If you are willing to shell out some cash, Malwarebytes has an affordable price plan known as the Premium package. For $40, you can protect one device for one year. If you lock in for a two year subscription you will save $10. They also have packages for businesses that start at $120 per year.

Malwarebytes may not have as many price options as some of the other best antivirus software available, yet their rates are extremely affordable for a single user.

Conclusion

Malwarebytes is very affordable and really focuses on eliminating malware. Though advertised as a type of antivirus software, it does not fully replace what an antivirus suite like Norton or Panda Security can produce. Instead, it makes a great addition to your regular antivirus software with added malware security defense.
