Even in the digital age it’s still necessary to make paper copies, whether it’s for advertising flyers, a work presentation, or documents for your personal files.
On average, making copies may cost up to 10 cents per page for black-and-white and 10 to 60 cents per page for color. Prices will vary from location to location. The more copies you’re making, the cheaper per page the order usually is. If you’re on a tight budget it’s worth it to call around to several copy locations in your area to find the best price.
If you only need a handful of copies made, ask a friend or family member who has a multi-function printer. If you live in an apartment building, the leasing office may make a few copies for you for free, too. When those aren’t an option, there are plenty of places around town to get copies made cheaply.
Business centers at hotels and airports often provide copy services for guests and passengers.
Colleges and Universities
If you live in a college town, there’s a good chance that student union centers and libraries have copy machines, and a large school may even have a copy and printing business on campus.
Community centers often have copy machines and may charge less than commercial copy and print businesses for smaller page counts.
Some Costco locations have copy services for as little as 4 cents for black and white pages and 29 cents per page for color copies. Call the Costco nearest you to see if it’s something they offer.
Even your local pharmacy may have a copy machine. Over 3,400 CVS locations across the United States offer copy services at the photo desk.
At FedEx (formerly known as Kinko’s), copies start as low as 8 cents per page, depending on how many copies you’re making and if they’re black and white or color. Prices vary by location.
The Local Library
Your local library is likely one of the cheapest places to get copies made if you only need a few pages copied. Find the library closest to you and give them a call.
Some government buildings, from federal down to the local level, may have copy machines for public use. It’s worth giving your town hall a call to find out.
Office Depot and Office Max
Prices at Office Depot and Office Max average about 9 cents for black and white copies and 42 cents for color.
Staples offers black and white and full-color copy services at all of their U.S. locations. Just walk up to the self-service desk and get started.
The UPS Store
With over 5,000 locations in the United States and Canada, it’s easy to find a UPS Store for making inexpensive copies.
Some VONS grocery store locations offer copy services at the customer service desk. Not all do, so call them before heading in.
