Kmart is a company that requires no introduction: in 2005, when the chain of discount department stores made the historic decision to purchase Sears, the result was the equivalent of an earthquake in the retail world, and the resulting mammoth, Sears Holding Corporation, is set to dominate not just the US market, but the global one as well.
Over the years, Kmart has opened stores in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Mexico, and even Syria. Some of these stores have been closed down or sold to other chains of department stores in the meantime, but the first steps for a global presence have been made.
Back in the US, Kmart is also known for its involved in various philanthropic campaigns, especially through its Kmart for Kids group of programs, which supports the American Diabetes Association, March of Dimes, and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Campaigns are frequently organized to allow Kmart customers to make their own contributions to these worthy causes.
