About Old Navy
Old Navy is a popular clothing and accessories retailer, which is owned by Gap Inc. It has corporate operations in San Francisco and San Bruno, California. The biggest of the Old Navy stores can be found in New York City, Seattle, Chicago and San Francisco.
During the 1980s, under the direction of Millard Drexler, Gap adopted an upscale image. A few years later, the company would see the addition of divisions: Banana Republic, GapKids and BabyGap. Soon after that, one division was renamed to Old Navy, in order to create a different image of its parent. The first locations were opened in the towns of San Leandro, Pittsburg and Colma, in Northern California.
The division evolved rapidly, and in 1997, it became the first retailer to go over $1 billion in its first four years in business, and opened 500 stores by 2000. In 2001, Old Navy opened 12 stores in Ontario, Canada, and started with its international expansion.
